HHJ andrew smith Kc

Andrew was appointed as a Circuit Judge in September 2022. He sits in Birmingham Crown Court and hears cases involving serious crime. Prior to his appointment as a judge, Andrew was a barrister. He was appointed as a KC (silk) in 2012. As a barrister Andrew both prosecuted and defended in criminal trials, often involving allegations of child homicide and serious organised criminal activity. Andrew is a member of Middle Temple.

Andrew has been an advocacy trainer for many years. He has trained advocates as part of programmes organised by the ICCA in both the Hague and Washington DC. Andrew is currently the national lead facilitator for Vulnerable Witness Advocacy training for both crime and family advocates in England and Wales. He is also a tutor judge for the Judicial College.
