National Advocacy Training Program: UN Training (2022 Virtual)

OVERVIEW:

The American Inns of Court's National Advocacy Training Program (NATP) Virtual Experience is an intensive oral advocacy training program designed to meet the challenges of our current times.

How does it work? The program is organized into two groups, each with two trainers: British judges or barristers from the Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) in London. The trainers will lead each group using a modified version of the the six-step Hampel method of advocacy training. In order to level the experience playing field, the training is based on a case set before the International Criminal Court (ICC) developed specifically for the NATP Virtual Experience.

  • Some online work will be required in advance of the live training, which includes watching video presentations and reviewing the case materials.
  • All participants should feel comfortable working in a group and receiving public critiques of their performances.

THE training will occur over the course of five days:

  • Monday, December 5: The Case Analysis
  • Tuesday, December 6: Opening Arguments
  • Wednesday, December 7: Replay of Opening Arguments; Direct/Cross Examination of Applicant's Witnesses
  • Thursday, December 8: Replay of Applicant's Examinations; Direct/Cross Examination of Defense Witnesses
  • Friday, December 9: Replay of Defense Examinations; Closing Arguments

Participants must plan on attending all five training sessions.
  • Participants should be logged in ~ 5 minutes in advance of the start time to facilitate our very tight schedule.
  • There are two groups of participants; the time of each was chosen to accommodate participants from around the world and our trainer friends in London.
