CREOKS Cohort 12- Child Centered Play Therapy

Child-Centered play therapy was developed by Dr. Garry Landreth based on the foundational principles and work by Carl Rogers. Dr. Landreth,(1991; 2002; 2012) describes CCPT as “a developmentally responsive, play-based mental health intervention for young children ages 3 to 10 who are experiencing social, emotional, behavioral and relational disorders.” This workshop will focus on the CCPT foundational concepts in the process of play therapy.

Objectives:

  1. Participants will discuss 2 foundational concepts in CCPT.
  2. Participants will analyze 3 play therapy key concepts in CCPT.
  3. Participants will describe the role of the clinician, client, and caregivers in CCPT.
  4. Participants will critique 2 CCPT concepts in relation to other play therapy theoretical orientations.
  5. Participants will discuss utilizing CCPT within their own practice.
  6. Participants will practice 2 CCPT tracking skills.
CS Institute is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to play therapy. APT approved provider number15-419. CS Institute maintains responsibility for the program.

    Sharolyn Wallace PhD, LCSW, RPT-S, IMH-E® has worked with children and families for over 30 years. She has served on the APT Board of Directors and OKAPT and currently serves on the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB). Dr. Wallace has authored six children’s books and APT magazine articles. She is the Professor of Human Services at Tulsa Community College and Faculty Director for the Center for Addiction Prevention and Recovery Support.
