Description:
Labor Day marks the beginning of the election season whenever the presidency is in play. Additionally, Congress is already gridlocked, the Biden administration is unlikely to have more healthcare initiatives this summer and the Supreme Court is in recess until October. Does this mean healthcare executives can turn off their news feeds and focus on what’s coming until fall? Unfortunately, no.

This webinar identifies anticipated updates and changes from the three sectors of the federal government. It will provide a summary of legislation passed that is now in the rulemaking process within the executive branch, pending court challenges to legislation from the first half of the Biden administration, and the status of initiatives from the Trump administration still reaching fruition. There will be a focus on the identification of the first drugs for negotiation under the Inflation Reduction Act, progress made on mental health through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and an update on the enforcement of the federal healthcare transparency rule (2019) and No Surprises Act. The discussion will also include state legislation with national implications (abortion access and Medicaid expansion).

To round out the review of what is happening in the legal regulation of healthcare, health law expert Sarah F. Fontenot, JD, will assess the U.S. Supreme Court docket for the next term and what to expect from case law currently working its way through the federal court system, such as the challenges to mifepristone and preventive care under the Affordable Care Act.

Attendees will leave with predictions for the health law landscape through next year, with tips for which areas of healthcare policy and legislation executives should focus on to remain ahead of the curve.

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine current rulemaking in the federal executive departments stemming from the wave of healthcare legislation in 2021 and 2022, as well as increased enforcement of the healthcare transparency rule and No Surprises Act.
  • Appraise current court challenges to the Inflation Reduction Act and the Affordable Care Act, and get an update on the case seeking to reverse FDA approval of mifepristone.
  • Speculate how the upcoming presidential election, gridlock in Congress and the increased supremacy of state legislation will affect how healthcare executives lead their organizations forward.
