Working with students and their families is essential in teaching. Including Indigenous Australian people's perspectives is an important way of promoting inclusive practices but is also a requirement within the Australian Teaching Standards and national curriculum.
This course aims to empower teachers by exploring practical strategies to honor and integrate Koorie culture into curriculum design, teaching practices, and classroom environments. By understanding the cultural backgrounds and perspectives of Koorie students, educators can create inclusive learning spaces that foster a sense of belonging and pride for all students. This session will gain practical insights into effective communication with Koorie communities, incorporating culturally relevant resources, and how to support all students to engage with First Nations knowledges with respect. Additionally, this session will address the importance of ongoing professional development and self-reflection in promoting Koorie Cultural Inclusion. By the end of the session, participants will leave equipped with practical ideas to create meaningful connections, enhance cultural responsiveness, and cultivate educational experiences that enable students of all backgrounds to thrive.
