Description

This webinar is part of the SFPE Emerging Professionals programming made possible through the generous sponsorship of Senez Consulting to support emerging fire protection engineers.

“Back to Basics” is designed to be an entry level fire protection course geared towards providing a general high level overview of some major pillars within fire protection engineering.

We will start this journey by first looking at where fire protection engineers work and what the job of a fire protection engineer consists of. Not every fire protection engineer is a consultant or system designer located within the State of Maryland. Fire protection engineers work worldwide and have many different career trajectories.

The next stop in the course is to truly delve into this mindset of "back to basics" by looking at the many systems a fire protection engineer can be involved with. These systems include, but are not limited to: sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, standpipe systems, passive fire protection systems and much more. Each of these systems are designed, constructed and enforced with preservation of life (life safety) and property preservation in mind as well as supporting the fire service via fire department operations.

The final stop within this journey is to look at how the systems we design, inspect and/or enforce as a fire protection engineer impact one of the biggest users of them, the fire service. The fire service interacts with fire protection systems each day in a multitude of different ways. We as fire protection engineers can aid the fire service in minimizing the risks associated with the job as well as advocate for change for the better.

Fire protection engineers are involved in more aspects of everyday life than most people know and there are a plethora of opportunities waiting for you.
