The San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) had started enforcing Fire Service Access Elevators (FSAEs) for new high-rise buildings in the city of San Francisco since 2008 based on a local city ordinance AB # 5.08. This was done before the first FSAE requirements were included in the 2009IBC. Since 2008 , there are about 100 high-rise buildings in San Francisco with FSAEs designed and installed per IBC/CBC Section 3007, NFPA 72Section 21.5 and specific SFFD requirements such as 100 GPM trench drains, etc. per AB # 5.08. This presentation will discuss all current FSAE associated codes and the specific design/installation and enforcement requirements by SFFD.
