G08 BIPOC Back to School Toolkit in Pandemic Times

Description

This is a pilot study created during the Summer 2022 to get a snapshot of how BIPOC students are experiencing graduate school during the pandemic. Due to the short turnaround time, we were only able to gather 80 respondents from the study. The data collected during the study has revealed that half of BIPOC student respondents experienced hardship during their MLS training. We are committed to create an informative and resource for BIPOC MLS students and recent graduates. In order to create a meaningful data tool, our team is committed to creating a national scaled survey that evaluates BIPOC archival students with IRB approval and faculty support. In January 2023 we will produce an IRB supportive survey for BIPOC MLS students. We will evaluate what ways BIPOC MLS student navigate the financially challenging experience of attending library school. We will conduct a Focus Group for BIPOC and archival students (separately) to identify ways to find employment and secure funding for school.
