Description
American vocalist Jessye Norman garnered accolades for her operatic performances and recitals of classical song and African American Spirituals. After winning the 1968 ARD International Music Competition (Munich), she established her career in Europe before returning to the United States and opera stages around the world. In 2019, Norman donated her materials to the Library of Congress, shortly before her passing. The collection, currently in processing, adds to the legacy of Black performers in art music. This poster employs data mapping software to realize the geographical reach of her voice and highlight important places and venues in her career.
