Live Webinar: Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy: An Overview for Mental Health Professionals

Psychedelic assisted therapy is emerging as a highly effective form of mental health treatment. This workshop will provide health care professionals an overview of this new clinical area. First, the basic model of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy will be explained so that workshop participants will have a better sense of how this treatment works. Differences between the most common psychedelics will be outlined, as well as their unique psychological and physical effects. Next, current research on psychedelic-assisted therapy will be summarized, emphasizing which conditions and substances have the most evidence.
The workshop will highlight the importance of psychotherapy in the preparation and integration phase of the treatment model. The current legal status of psychedelics will be also be reviewed, including at the state and federal levels. Finally, diversity issues around lack of access for underserved and non-majority populations will be explored, as well as the prevalence of cultural appropriation and colonialism in modern psychedelic medicine.
Objectives include:
1. Describe the theory and practice of psychedelic assisted psychotherapy.
2. Summarize research findings and identify the clinical applications with the most empirical support.
3. Discuss the current legal status of psychedelic assisted psychotherapy at a state and federal level.
4. Describe the role of psychotherapy in preparation for and integration of psychedelic experiences.
