Losses that are unique to Immigrants and diverse cultural groups have been consistently overlooked, minimized or unacknowledged for years. As a result, many clients have experienced Disenfranchised Grief. This course is designed to provide insight and research-related information on how the Immigrant experience can impact their mental and emotional health. It is crucial that clinicians are able to conceptualize when Disenfranchised Grief has become “complicated” in our client’s life. It’s crucial for Immigrants losses and experiences are not only acknowledged but supported as well. Clinicians will walk away with tools and a better understanding of challenges diverse cultures and subcultures experience to help create a safe space for clients to freely express and process their experiences. This training will empower Clinicians to better support Immigrant’s diverse struggles and recognize how Migratory Grief and Disenfranchised Grief are common experiences.

Objectives include:

1. Recognize when a client is experiencing Disenfranchised Grief and develop an appropriate treatment strategy.
2. Recognize 2-3 cultural group experiences that can lead to Disenfranchised Grief to enhance empathy in session.
3. Recognize 2-3 Immigrant Experiences that can lead to Migratory Grief and Disenfranchised Grief to better care for clients.

    Tiffani Dilworth, MA, LPC, is a successful psychotherapist, author, and sought -after speaker who addresses topics related to grief, PTSD, and sexual assault. She is a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist. She has worked across the US with various organizations, schools, universities, and corporations to bring awareness to the grieving process and concrete tools to learn how to live alongside grief. Miss Dilworth is known for her innovative and story-telling presentation style. Her passion leads her to intensive studying of grief and continuous searches for new ways to support and share therapeutic techniques to support others in their grieving process.

    Miss Dilworth has an extensive history of working alongside non-profit organizations that provide supportive workshops, conferences, and support groups to men, women, and teens who’ve experienced grief and/or sexual assault. She was a Co-host on Beyond Clarity Radio Show, on WTAN 106.1 FM in Clearwater, FL, as a Mental Health Expert. Miss Dilworth currently conducts grief workshops and hosts, Managing My Grief Podcast, to provide support to individuals who want to learn more about grief and ways to manage their own grief.

    Miss Dilworth is the author of 11 Tools to Help Manage the Aftermath of Trauma and Types of Grief. She has a private practice and is an affiliate of PsychExperts & Associates Inc, located in Baltimore, MD. Miss Dilworth draws equally from her studies and rich clinical experience to balance her trainings with current information and experienced-based techniques.
