Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a compassionate, respectful, and non-pathologizing counseling approach shown to be effective for a variety of concerns. The IFS model is useful for addressing a wide range of issues such as trauma, addictions, and relationship difficulties. This presentation will cover IFS concepts, benefits, and provide basic experiences useful for a counselor’s addressing addictive processes.

Objectives Include:
-Introduce Internal Family Systems (IFS) concepts related to addictions.
-Learn how to understand addictive processes through the IFS approach.
-Apply IFS concepts and interventions to individuals and families experiencing addictive processes.

    Paul Emrich, Ph.D., LPC, LMFT serves as an Associate Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at East Central University and maintains a private counseling practice in Ada, OK. He has over 25 years of leadership and clinical experience in outpatient mental health, psychiatric, residential rehabilitation, and integrated behavioral health settings. He has participated in multiple Internal Family Systems (IFS) trainings with the IFS-Institute and began providing IFS-informed therapy in 2014.
