Join us for an informative session presented by the chairs of NCSEA's Seismic and Wind Code Advisory Subcommittees. This webinar will review feedback from practicing Structural Engineers on ASCE 7 and the IBC, and actions being taken to drive code and standard improvements. The session will highlight practical guidance for engineers, featuring resources to address seismic irregularities and tornado design using ASCE 7-22, along with answers to frequently asked questions on seismic and wind design.

  • Seth Thomas, P.E., S.E.

    Seth Thomas, P.E., S.E., works at KPFF Consulting Engineers and is a licensed structural engineer. Seth has been involved in code development his entire career and currently is a voting member of the tsunami, flood, seismic and main committees for the ASCE 7-28. Seth has been involved in multiple tsunami and performance based seismic design projects including OSU Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building (first tsunami vertical evacuation projects in Oregon), Ocosta Middle School (first tsunami evacuation project in Washington), the Portland International Airport PDXNext Project, Multnomah County Central Courthouse (MCCCH), and the VA Portland Hospital Seismic Retrofit.

  • John O’Brien, P.E., S.E.

    John O'Brien, P.E., S.E. is an Associate and Director of Engineering at PES Structural Engineers in Atlanta, GA with 20 years of structural design experience. He has extensive experience in the design of a wide range of commercial and industrial facilities in hurricane prone and tornado prone regions. In addition to designing new construction, John has led the investigation and repair design for numerous facilities damaged by hurricane and tornado events throughout the southeast and the Caribbean Islands. John serves as the Chair of NCSEA's Wind Engineering Committee and Chair of the ASCE 7 Chapter 29 Task Committee for Wind Loads on Other Structures and Building Appurtenances.

NCSEA Webinars and Digital Events Cancellation and Refund Policies

Webinar Cancellation

By NCSEA: If a webinar is canceled by NCSEA, all registered attendees will be notified via email. NCSEA will issue a full refund if the event cannot be rescheduled. If the event is rescheduled and a registrant can not attend on the rescheduled date, NCSEA will offer a credit in the amount of the purchase price.

By Registrant/Attendee: Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance of the webinar (or the first webinar in the case of a series or bundle) and in writing via email ( ncsea@ncsea.com) with the subject line "NCSEA Webinar Cancellation" and include the following in the body of the email: Title of Webinar, Order/Invoice Number, Name of Registrant, and Reason for Cancellation. No telephone refund requests will be accepted.

If the request has been approved, NCSEA can do one of the following:
  • Refund the amount back to the original order payment method (a $25 cancellation processing fee will be assessed)
  • Issue a full credit on the purchaser’s account that can be used towards a future webinar/event.

If you are unable to attend the webinar and the cancellation deadline has passed, a recording will be available (in most cases) in the Education Portal after the webinar has concluded.
Refunds are not granted due to attendee technology issues. It is your responsibility as the webinar attendee to test your computer setup prior to the start of the webinar.
