NCSEA is continuing its partnership with Shani
Dellimore Barrax of Aurora Change Agency to provide foundational learning and
development to Structural Engineering Engagement and Equity (SE3) Committee members
supporting their diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) efforts. Join our committee and community as we engage
in dialogue, self-reflection, and action planning to advance the inclusive goals
of the structural engineering profession. Attendance at all five virtual sessions from 1
– 3 CST is required to participate.

Module | Description |
Module 1: Cultural Humility and the YOU in Unity | 1/25/24: This session will introduce participants to cultural humility, self-reflection, and its role in creating inclusive environments. Participants will identify their own dimensions of diversity and consider their role in their perspectives, experiences, and interactions. |
Module 2: Bias Awareness and Socialization |
2/1/24: Using participants’ results from the Implicit Association Test, this session will introduce participants to biases, how they develop, and how they can be addressed. Participants will understand the cycles of socialization and liberation in creating and “undoing” the impact of biases. |
Module 3: Monocultural and Multicultural Practices and Equity |
2/8/24: This session will introduce the anatomy of a multicultural organization and its role in facilitating inclusion and equity. Participants will understand the difference between monocultural and multicultural practices in preparation for application to their respective NCSEA roles. |
Module 4: Organizational Culture and Belonging | 2/22/24: This session explores the juxtaposition of inclusive leadership, change management, and organizational culture to facilitate belonging. Participants will consider the capacities needed to facilitate meaningful change within NCSEA. |
Module 5: Let’s Make a Plan! |
2/29/24: Through an examination of and engagement with the 4Ps, this session charts the course for action with participants creating a plan for addressing their identified DEIB challenges. |
