Course Description
The IRS Collection Process: This course provides a broad overview of the IRS collection process, beginning with initial assessment of a balance due through resolution of the unpaid tax balance. Participants will understand the options available for resolving an unpaid federal tax debt.

Learning Objectives
  • Summarize the lifecycle of a collection case from selection to completion.
  • Discuss the role of Appeals and the United States Tax Court in resolving collection controversies.
  • Identify new developments in IRS collection, including, but not limited to, passport issues and use of private debt collection.
Presenters



Geoffrey D. Plourde, EA, JD, CPA
Geoff is an enrolled agent, attorney, and certified public accountant who specializes in resolving complex tax issues. He is an active member of the California Society of Enrolled Agents (currently state director and state education committee vice chair) and the National Association of Enrolled Agents. He was named a Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute in 2015 after completing a rigorous program of advanced study in tax problem resolution. He has an MST from Golden Gate University, a JD from Southwestern Law School, and an MBA from the University of Southern California.
