Department of Labor Final Rule on Overtime Exemptions

On April 26, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor published its final rule on Defining and Delimiting Exemptions for Executive, Administrative, Professional, Outside Sales, and Computer Employees (also known as the overtime rule). The final rule raises the minimum annual salary threshold and the annual compensation level for highly compensated employees, with the first increase to occur on July 1, 2024, another increase to occur on January 1, 2025, and automatic updates to occur every three years. The rule is estimated to impact more than four million employees currently classified as exempt, requiring employers to either raise their pay, or begin paying them overtime and tracking the time they work.

Please join us for a 30-minute NACUA briefing during which George Ingham and Vannesa Martinez Cecchini will provide an overview of the rule, how it applies in the higher education context, the current legal challenges to the rule, and how institutions should prepare for the rule’s implementation.

This free briefing recording is only available to NACUA members.
