Enhancing Addiction Expertise: Leveraging NAADAC Resources for Icelandic Professionals through Credentialing, Education, and Membership

Join us for a training session tailored specifically for Icelandic addiction professionals. This training will delve into the resources and support offered by NAADAC, the Association of Addiction Professionals. Participants will gain valuable insights into the benefits of NAADAC credentialing, which can enhance professional recognition and credibility. The session will also cover the extensive educational opportunities available through NAADAC, designed to keep addiction specialists at the forefront of their field. Additionally, we will explore the advantages of NAADAC membership, including access to a vast network of professionals, cutting-edge research, and ongoing professional development.

All professionals are welcome, including alcohol and drug counselors, nurses, doctors, paramedics, and health science students working with those struggling with addiction. This training aims to empower Icelandic addiction specialists by connecting them with the resources and support needed to excel in their vital work.

  • Caitlin Hegwood, PhD, MAC, ACADC, CADC-II, CCTS-I, CYI

    Caitlin Hegwood, PhD, MAC, ACADC, CADC-II, CCTS-I, CYI, has served in many capacities during her career: educator, certified recovery coach, and addiction counselor in the field of human services for over a decade. Hegwood has worked in various settings, from community mental health and residential treatment to private practice in Arizona, Idaho, and Massachusetts. When working with clients, Hegwood combines clinical, evidenced-based addiction interventions with trauma-informed self-regulation techniques to reduce symptomatology, relapse potential, and recidivism. She blends her knowledge of addiction treatment and leadership to create social change locally and nationally through her work at NAADAC, the Association of Addiction Professionals, as the Sr. Affiliates Manager, lead on peer programming, and staff liaison to the Military and Veteran Affairs Committee, Clinical Supervision Committee, Prevention Committee, Peer Committee, and the NAADAC Education and Research Foundation. She has been a representative and advocate for substance use treatment and services as a member of NAADAC, the Association of Addiction Professionals, and volunteered as a Legislative Representative, President, and now Past President of the Idaho Association of Addiction Professionals, a NAADAC Affiliate. She has also served as a South-Central Behavioral Health Board member and the Reducing Recidivism Board of Directors.

  • Mat Sandifer, LCSW, LCAS, CCS

    Mat Sandifer, LCSW, LCAS, CCS, has been a member of the Substance Use Disorder professional community since 1992, working in private and public institutions throughout the clinical continuum of care. Mat earned a Master of Social Work from UNCG and NCA&T. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Addictions Professional, and Certified Clinical Supervisor, Mat founded New Vision Therapy, PLLC, in North Carolina, NC, providing SUD and MAT treatment services. Previously, Mat served on the Addiction Professionals of North Carolina (APNC) Board as the Vice President for the North Central Region of Addiction Professionals of North Carolina and as an at-large member. As co-chair of the Social Justice Committee of APNC, Mat worked toward increasing access to SUD services for all NC citizens. Mat also served on the executive committee of NAADAC as Vice President for the Southeast region of NAADAC for four years. In January 2024, Mat became the Director of Certification and Testing of NCC AP of NAADAC. As an advocate for substance abuse treatment, Mat is a founding member of CURE Triad, a coalition bringing together public safety, public health, public education, healthcare, and substance use disorder providers and community advocates. Lastly, Mat is in long-term recovery and will be happy to discuss his journey as a recovering person.
