The growth rate for Americans over the age of 60 is expected to grow at a rate of 65% over the next five years. The prevalence of substance use disorders and trauma among adults age 40 and older is also growing at a very fast rate. Older adults who complete 30 days or less in an inpatient/residential treatment centers often relapse shortly after discharge. This is due to several factors including generational and gender beliefs and creating a therapeutic alliance. This webinar will help participants become more aware of some of the clinical challenges in treating this older population as well as gain insights into the role that mindfulness and meditation play in SUD and trauma recovery from both a clinical and spiritual perspective.

- Consider a hypothesis about why many older adults relapse after multiple attempts at treatment.
- Gain greater awareness of the challenges of treating older adults diagnosed with SUD’s and trauma co-morbidities.
- Identify typical symptoms and chief complaints reported by older adults who suffer from SUD and trauma.

Presenters
Kenneth Chance, D.Div
Kenneth Chance, D.Div., is the founder and CEO/President of Arrowhead Lodge Recovery. He is the author of Confessions of a Closed Male; A Story of Spiritual Awakening, and the visionary for the MONTANA Model of recovery. Ken practices a no-nonsense approach to recovery based upon the twelve spiritual principles of Alcoholics Anonymous that have helped millions recover from alcoholism. Through his own personal recovery, Ken has experienced not only the ravages of the disease of alcoholism; he has also experienced the effect of an untreated co-occurring disorder. For this reason he is committed to provide proven medical, psychological and spiritual resources to all who suffer from addiction. He enjoys the outdoors and is often on his motorcycle riding through the northern Arizona mountains.

Robert Potter, MS, LASAC, CSAT
Robert Potter, MS, LASAC, CSAT, has clinical behavioral health experience in detox, inpatient, residential and outpatient. A person in long-term recovery, Bob combines mindfulness and an eastern spiritual practice with evidence based therapy such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing as well as the spiritual principles of 12-Step work. He holds a Master’s of Science degree in addiction counseling and is a licensed substance abuse counselor and a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT).
