Description
As codified in the NAADAC/NCC AP Code of Ethics, addiction professionals are called to advocate on behalf of clients at the individual, group, institutional, and societal levels. In this presentation, we will examine the central policy discussions surrounding the addiction profession in Washington, DC. We will also explore the critical role advocacy plays in shaping the delivery of treatment and recovery services. Finally, we will look forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the addiction profession in Congress and across the federal agencies.

Presenters
Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, BSW, NCAC II, CDC III, SAP,
Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, BSW, NCAC II, CDC III, SAP, is the Executive Director of NAADAC, the Association of Addiction Professionals. She previously served as the Executive Director of Danya Institute and the Central East Addiction Technology Transfer Center. Prior to that, she was the Program Director for Volunteers of America Western Washington serving as the administrator of alcohol/drug centers providing a broad range of services, and a trainer in Domestic Violence/Anger Management and Conflict Resolution. Moreno Tuohy has written on a variety of professional issues, including addiction evaluation, counseling methods, co-occurring disorders, treatment and recovery. She has served as President of NAADAC, Certification Board Commissioner, International Chair, Treasurer and Legislative Chair for NAADAC.

Tim Casey, Policy Advisor, has a proven record of leadership in advancing the federal priorities of national associations, corporations, consumer organizations, and nonprofits. Casey’s experience in the House and Senate, combined with his time as a senior lobbyist for prominent health care associations, offers clients sound policy advice, strategic political counsel, and a keen instinct for delivering on key priorities before Congress and the Administration. Casey also brings valuable legislative experience from his time in the House and the Senate. There, he managed a broad portfolio of critical domestic policy issues for Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) and Representative John Tierney (D-MA), including the Congressman’s priorities on the Education and Workforce Committee.

- Upon completing the webinar, you will have access to the CE quiz within the course you are taking. Find the CE quiz and click “purchase.” NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $20 processing fee to access the quiz.
- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
- Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
