It is the responsibility of the settlement officer to conduct the closing in an legal, moral and ethical manner, in compliance with the Contract, the lender’s instructions and RESPA, the rules and regulations established by the Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) that govern the settlement process, as well as any State and local laws. You have assumed these responsibilities when you agree to act as a Settlement Officer and you are subject to any penalties, including fine and imprisonment, if you violate these rules.
This session reviews the ethics rules and regulations established under RESPA and by HUD.
