course facilitator and syllabus

This course was inspired by the 2013 Warren E. Burger Prize winning essay titled, In the Aftermath: Responsibility and Professionalism in the Wake of Disaster (South Carolina Law Review, Volume 65, Book 2) written by Matthew P. Crouch, Esq.

Matt is an attorney for the federal government with a long background in service to the public and to the legal profession. Matt was born in the Philippines to American educators and lived there until age 6, when his family returned to the United States. He lived in the Midwest and the West, attending Colorado State University, where he earned his B.S. in Psychology. He attended St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Florida, graduating early while at the same time serving as an Articles Editor for the law review, as well as being President of the Mock Trial Board and on the Moot Court team. Matt also has an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Denver.

Matt is licensed to practice law in Texas and Colorado, as well as numerous federal courts, the United States Supreme Court, and as a solicitor in England and Wales. He is the author of “In the Aftermath: Responsibilities and Professionalism in the Wake of Disaster,” a law review article winning Warren E. Burger Prize by the American Inns of Court in 2013 and published by the South Carolina Law Review. He has presented and written materials for CLEs presented before the Greater Denver Tax Counsel Association, the Colorado Bar Association Tax Section’s Luncheon, the Denver Law Club, the National Association of Attorney Generals, and the Road Scholars CLE presented at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally by the Street Legal Motorcycle Club.

Matt was named the Denver Bar Association’s Young Lawyer of the Year in 2007 and has been privileged to have been a member of the American Inns of Court while in law school (The Peter T. Fay American Inn of Court), in Colorado (the Thompson G. Marsh American Inn of Court) and in Texas (the Robert W. Calvert American Inn of Court - Austin and Garland Walker American Inn of Court - Houston).

Outside of the profession of law, Matt is an accomplished photographer and occasional actor, enjoys traveling back highways of the country, and is learning the drums and how to pick locks among other things. He’s been with his partner J. since 1998.
