Description

Cybersecurity is more than an IT issue – it affects all departments, with the finance function being most vulnerable. Given that many employees have multiple roles at a company, it’s important that everyone be aware of how to protect themselves and the company against fraud. Using actual examples from the moving industry, security expert Dave Newell will provide insight into the latest risks in cybersecurity and what companies should look out for to ensure they are not vulnerable to the “bad guys”. Dave provides his Top 10 Tips and action items that you can implement at your company to help keep the “bad guys” at bay – both in the US and overseas.

Contributors

  • Dave Newell

Founder & CEO, Loptr LLC and Lowkey Software LLC

A long-time security consultant and entrepreneur, Dave Newell is the CEO and founder of Loptr LLC and Lowkey Software LLC. In 2013, Newell started Loptr to make it easier for organizations to get their information security processes done. He believed that even client teams without security expertise could have a working information security program with the right building blocks and a helping hand. Dave crafted Virtual Security Team (VST) to that end, and he is an integral part of the team that helps Loptr’s clients get information security work done.

In early 2018, he launched Lowkey Software to help organizations plan, implement, operate, and monitor their overall security and compliance programs in a SAAS platform. Today, more than 8,000 VSC licenses are sold to workforce members in industries ranging from finance to healthcare, manufacturing, non-profit, legal, agriculture, retail, and insurance.

Additionally, Dave is a highly sought-after guest lecturer on cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, and start-up businesses, and has been featured numerous times in Western New York media as an industry expert. For two years running (2015-2016), Loptr was a semifinalist in the 43North global competition, one year before Dave was named as a finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year category of InfoTech WNY’s BETAS (Buffalo Emerging Technology Awards Showcase.) The same year Loptr was recognized as a finalist Best Emerging Tech Company. He has authored numerous papers, including “Putting Risk Back Into Risk Analysis” and “Identifying Security Weaknesses in Your Enterprise,” both published in ISACA’s Cybersecurity Nexus “Knowledge & Insights” section.

Dave is a former US Air Force officer who served in the Pentagon’s 7th Communications Group, and he previously co-founded Crave Technology in Denver, Colorado. He earned his bachelor’s in computer systems/mathematics.
