Session Description
Background: Feedback between teachers and students is essential to facilitate effective learning in dental education. It enables dental students to acquire theoretical knowledge and develop clinical capabilities, reflect on knowledge, analyse and improve performance. It is expected that effective feedback will facilitate and improve the delivery of dental education.

This session proposal will allow the authors to present and discuss their qualitative and quantitative research findings on feedback for learning (including student and teacher perspectives and the impact of Covid-19) gathered from Special Interest Group sessions from the Association of Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) and from related journal publications, over the last 5 years.
Methods:

The session will include the following four themes:
Teacher feedback and student learning: the student perspective
(Students often criticise the quality and timing of feedback given to them by their teachers. Issues will be investigated and examples of good practices identified for implementation)
Teacher feedback and student learning: the teacher perspective
(Pertinent issues will be explored and guidelines to the where/why/how/when of effective feedback practices are presented)
Student perceptions of tutor feedback, the Italian story
(Using the University of Brescia as a case study, the interplay amongst the different factors are identified and shared)
Teacher feedback in Covid-19; has anything changed?
(The pandemic has had a fundamental impact on feedback practices in dental education. No change is not an option and the pertinent aspects of change to maintain effective feedback practices and the “new normal” are critically analysed and presented).
