2023 IADR/LAR General Session with WCPD

The 2023 IADR/LAR General Session & Exhibition with WCPD provided dental, oral, and craniofacial health scientists with the opportunity to present, discuss, and critique their latest and most cutting-edge research at a 100% in-person gathering in Bogotá, Colombia. The meeting was attended by 1,667 individuals from 76 countries.

The recordings in this library from the meeting are a selection of the science that was presented at the General Session. These recordings give you the opportunity to participate in the meeting and hear from leading researchers. The recordings include IADR Distinguished Lecture Series speakers and symposia from a collection of scientific groups and networks.

This session can be purchased as part of the full meeting recordings within the product bundles

Session Description
CariesCare International (CCI) is a Consensus guide for the clinical practice –based on the ICCMS system, that promotes a patient-centered, risk-based approach to caries management, maintaining oral health and preserving tooth structure in the long term. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a one-year multicenter caries management RCT that was planned to assess in 2020 its caries-control effectiveness in children of 21 centers in 13 countries, was changed to a single-group interventional study: Caries OUT, adapting the CCI system, to be used with non-aerosol-generating procedures (AGP) and reduced in-office appointment time. This multicenter project involved the following four-step structured process: 1D -Determining caries-risk; 2D -Detecting & Assessing caries lesions; 3D -Deciding a personalised care plan, and 4D -Doing preventive and tooth-preserving care. In addition, Caries OUT included a short oral-health change behavior tool, based on the COM-B behavior model, to improve toothbrushing, and diet behaviors, and 'How to' designed e-learnings covering CCI as well as the pandemic-adapted CCI.

This symposium aims to present, on one side, ongoing Caries OUT outcomes, including effectiveness in controlling caries-lesion progression and high caries risk, improvement in oral-health behavior, and caregivers’ and dentists’ acceptability through treatment efficacy inventory. It will also discuss how CariesCare International became an opportunity to achieve during and around the pandemic, children’s oral care, conducting a clinical research project with a global network, training and educating researchers/practitioners online, and maintaining a continuous online communication with patients and their parents. Finally, it will present how CCI can contribute to bridge caries management gaps.

Learning Objectives
  • Attendees will be provided with pandemic-adapted best practice and evidence based guide on caries management by merging non-AGP with education and teledentistry within the practice focusing on health outcomes.
  • Attendees will be offered with this experience around the pandemic, on how to change their attitude and approach towards networking, conducting research, training and education of researchers and practitioners, and children’s care even under challenging circumstances.
