2023 IADR/LAR General Session with WCPD

The 2023 IADR/LAR General Session & Exhibition with WCPD provided dental, oral, and craniofacial health scientists with the opportunity to present, discuss, and critique their latest and most cutting-edge research at a 100% in-person gathering in Bogotá, Colombia. The meeting was attended by 1,667 individuals from 76 countries.

The recordings in this library from the meeting are a selection of the science that was presented at the General Session. These recordings give you the opportunity to participate in the meeting and hear from leading researchers. The recordings include IADR Distinguished Lecture Series speakers and symposia from a collection of scientific groups and networks.

Session Description
A large proportion of EU citizens do not have access to affordable, good quality oral care. Citizens, policymakers, and healthcare professionals are confronted with this complex systems problem, at practice, community, and policy levels, which drives oral health inequalities. Resolving this systems problem will require adequate policymaking. Using deliberative methodologies, the DELIVER project will address this problem through a synergistic approach involving multiple stakeholders, including providers, policymakers and in particular engaging patients and citizens. Interventions to improve oral care access and quality will be deliberatively developed and tested across multiple countries. DELIVER will ultimately provide blueprint policy improvement models that can be delivered in different contexts.

This symposium will bring together academics, researchers, and clinicians to discuss how deliberative methods can be used to drive quality improvement. Firstly, the opportunities and challenges for oral care quality improvement will be set out for Europe, explaining the need to define oral care quality and produce fit-for-purpose quality indicators. Then, a review of patient engagement at the local level will describe how novel technologies and performance feedback interventions can improve the utility of patient reported outcomes and experiences. Next, the use of the Community Health Improvement Process to aid engagement and improvement for hard to reach and disadvantaged groups will be described. Finally, the role that public health and policy interventions have in supporting improvement through quality-oriented commissioning of health services will be discussed.

An open discussion will follow, allowing participants to share lessons and experiences in quality improvement, from theory to practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will understand how deliberative methods may be used to engage stakeholders in synergistic problem solving at practice, community, and policy levels;
  • Participants will gain knowledge in how quality improvement theory can be translated to practical interventions.
