2023 IADR/LAR General Session with WCPD

The 2023 IADR/LAR General Session & Exhibition with WCPD provided dental, oral, and craniofacial health scientists with the opportunity to present, discuss, and critique their latest and most cutting-edge research at a 100% in-person gathering in Bogotá, Colombia. The meeting was attended by 1,667 individuals from 76 countries.

The recordings in this library from the meeting are a selection of the science that was presented at the General Session. These recordings give you the opportunity to participate in the meeting and hear from leading researchers. The recordings include IADR Distinguished Lecture Series speakers and symposia from a collection of scientific groups and networks.

This session can be purchased as part of the full meeting recordings within the product bundles

Session Description
This symposium will address the causes of delay in primary and secondary care and present evidence-based research on ways to improve early diagnosis by minimizing diagnostic delays. The challenges differ in societies with different cultures and risk factors. We will examine where and how delays occur in primary care due to patients’ delays, due to poor access, and the reasons why primary care physicians and dentists may miss a diagnosis of an early oral cancer. We will then present research findings from recent programs (from India and Malaysia) on the use of mobile technology by primary healthcare workers with the aim of minimizing diagnostic delays.
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools into routine diagnosis have recently emerged as an adjunct to aid clinical examination. The application of artificial intelligence and machine learning that could be used in secondary care to improve diagnosis will be presented to encourage researchers to work with multi-disciplinary teams to improve on the current systems.

There is much controversy in the use of adjunctive chair-side aids in oral cancer diagnosis in secondary care facilities and we will critically appraise the literature to provide a guideline on their use in secondary care.
This symposium will target, dentists, dental students, post-graduate students, academics, and researchers who wish to expand their knowledge of the recent advances in diagnostic technologies with the aim of improving care for patients suspected of oral cancer. This session will be geared towards both clinicians and researchers alike.
