Join your colleagues on Zoom for a live, informal discussion lead by APHA's staff on the topics you selected during registration. After a brief welcome you'll be invited into breakout groups where you can share your stories, best practices and challenges on the following topics:

  • Public Health Workforce, led by Angie McGowan, Senior Director, Alliance for Disease Prevention and Response
  • Racial Equity, led by Lawrence Haynes, Program Manager, Racial Equity

    Lawrence Haynes is the Program Manager for Racial Equity for the Center for Public Health Policy at the American Public Health Association where he focuses on managing and supporting the Healing Through Policy initiative. Mr. Haynes is also a PhD student at Howard University studying Higher Education Leadership & Policy

  • Angela McGowan, JD, MPH

    Angela K. McGowan, J.D., M.P.H., is a Senior Director at the American Public Health Association directing the Alliance for Disease Prevention and Response. Previously, she was a Project Director at the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, assigned from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). At ODPHP, she led the Healthy People 2020 Law and Health Policy Project. Past experiences include serving as a Senior Program Officer with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, working at CDC’s Office of Planning, Evaluation, and Legislation at the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, serving in CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service with the Guide to Community Preventive Services, and working as a Legal Services Officer with Georgia's Division of Public Health. Angela is also an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown Law where she co-teaches a course in public health law and ethics. She received a law degree from Vanderbilt, a master’s in public health from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, and a bachelor’s in international relations from William and Mary.
