About the Training
This session will address the role and importance of state medical boards, administrative law in healthcare, and the significance of professional regulation. Presenters will also discuss the legal framework governing medical boards and provide a comprehensive overview of the licensing process, highlighting supportive resources available to boards and licensees.

About the Speakers

Elizabeth Huntley, JD, CMBE, is the Executive Director of the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, as position she has held since February 2023. Ms. Huntley has a long tenue with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice and previously served as the agency’s Deputy Director and managed the Board’s Licensure and Complaint Review Units. Prior to joining the Board staff, she worked as an investigator in the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office, conducting investigations on behalf of the State’s health regulatory boards. Ms. Huntley collaborates with internal and external stakeholders in health care regulation and analyzes and makes recommendations on policy and legislative matters relevant to the work of the Board. Ms. Huntley obtained her bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Catherine and her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law, both in St. Paul, MN. Ms. Huntley received her Medical Board Executive Certification in 2018.

Patricia A. King, MD, PhD, is a Past Chair (2018-19) and past member (2014-2020) of the FSMB Board of Directors and is the current Vice President of the FSMB Foundation. She was a member of the Vermont Board of Medical Practice from 2003 to 2015, serving as Chair 2010-2014, and recently was reappointed to the Vermont Board. Dr. King was the Chair of FSMB’s Workgroup on Education about Medical Regulation for Medical Students and Residents (2015-2019) and the Chair of FSMB’s Workgroup on Physician Sexual Misconduct (2018-20). Dr. King is also a current member of the NBME Board of Directors. She has been a member of both USMLE and NBME test development committees and served on the USMLE State Board Advisory Group.  Dr. King is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine where she has been active in medical student teaching and curriculum development, receiving the LCOM inaugural award for Curriculum Innovation in 2020. She practices primary care internal medicine with the University of Vermont Medical Group. Dr. King earned her PhD in Physiology from Brown University and MD from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Target Audience
This activity was designed specifically for board members of state medical and osteopathic licensing boards, including individuals involved with the investigation and prosecution of physician licensure and disciplinary cases.
