Part 2: When Talking Isn't Enough: The Importance of the Brain - Body Connection in Trauma

Description
“To be alive as a human being guarantees we will all experience trauma in our lives. Traumas of any kind, be it personal traumas rooted in childhood, traumatic adult experiences, or collective traumas such as wars, systemic discrimination or pandemics shock the body, creating an imbalance and vulnerability that must be healed – not solely through the mind, but as powerfully through the body.” (Berceli, 2008)

Objectives

  • Participants will gain knowledge to better assist clients in understanding the implications of PTSD in relation to both the brain and body in order to foster a sense of self-empowerment and self-determination within the client through psychoeducation.
  • Participants will be able to identify and explain how to integrate somatic therapy tools into their existing practice.
  • Participants will be able to identify 6 techniques for down-regulating the parasympathetic nervous system.
