Win, Lose, or Draw: Utilizing Artwork and Drawings in Supervision and Ethics

Approved for 3.0 Ethics CEUs, 3.0 Supervision CEUs, and 3.0 Play Therapy CEUs.

Utilizing drawings as a means of assessment and treatment development for clients has been debated within professional communities. According to Sarah Stauffer (2019), “Understanding the strengths and limitations of using drawings can help play therapists make informed decisions regarding how to employ these techniques ethically to protect the public and to reduce legal liability as the Association for Play Therapy (Association for Play Therapy, 2018a, b) dictates.” This workshop will focus on the ethical use of drawings in practice and supervision. Foundational and experiential activities will be part of the presentation.
Objectives:
1. Participants will identify ethical and supervision concerns for play therapy clinical practice.
2. Participants will analyze and discuss the use of drawings in play therapy practice.
3. Participants will analyze and discuss the benefits and limitations of using drawings in clinical and play therapy supervision.
