Program Overview
This introductory level course for mental health professionals will provide an overview of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and its four modules: mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. It will discuss relevant research showing the benefit of DBT for a variety of diverse clinical populations. Case examples will be presented near the end of the program to highlight how DBT skills can be used in clinical practice, and unique multicultural considerations in using DBT skills with clients will be discussed.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the four modules of DBT
  2. Describe an intervention that would be used by a DBT practitioner to address the goal of distress tolerance
  3. Discuss how DBT may be an efficacious modality to use for a diverse, multicultural clinical population

About the Presenter
Dr. Rebecca Oliver Román is a licensed clinical psychologist. Dr. Oliver Román earned her PhD from Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University. She completed an APA-accredited internship at the Biola Counseling Center and her postdoctoral training at Pepperdine Counseling Center. She currently works at Crossroads Institute, serving both therapeutic and assessment clients in order to help them achieve their goals as well as flourish personally, emotionally, and relationally.
