Wholistic Peri-Operative Care of Patients with Cleft Palate in Lower Resource Settings

The needs of patients with a cleft palate (CP) extend beyond simply the operation for repair. A wholistic approach to the peri-operative care of patients with CP is the widely accepted standard in high-resource countries – and even more necessary in lower-resource settings. We observed that in high-resource countries, some interventions (diagnostic and therapeutic) were high cost though provided marginal benefit. We will present an analysis of implementing low-cost, high-impact tools in the pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care of CP patients in lower-resource settings.
