This session will provide an overview of AI's role in higher education, exploring the ethical considerations that come with its integration. We will discuss the imperative for faculty to respond thoughtfully to the presence of AI, whether choosing to embrace or exclude it from their teaching methods. Furthermore, practical insights will be shared on how to enhance personal workflows through AI integration, including an overview of prompt writing. Faculty will discover innovative ways to leverage AI tools for improved efficiency, creative ideation, and a more enriched educational experience.

Lamar University

Ashley L. Dockens, Ph.D., Au.D., CCC-A, serves at Lamar University as Assoc. Dean of Policy & Procedure of Graduate Studies. In this role, she shapes and implements policies to drive academic excellence and compliance. Additionally, as Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Enhancement, she promotes best practices and leads all university AI initiatives, ensuring ethical and effective integration. As an Associate Professor of Audiology, she shares her passion for the field, previously directing the Au.D. program. In higher education, she serves as a regular speaker on the topic of generative AI at state, national, and international venues. As of March 2024, she has committed to serving as Chair of the AI Taskforce for CAPCSD. Dr. Dockens' diverse roles reflect her commitment to the success of higher education through servant leadership.
