Polymer Science CORE Course

Polymer Science Core Course
The Adhesives CORE course is a 90 minute video series is designed to provide an understanding of the principles of polymer science. An introduction to polymers, their structure/property relationships define the mechanical and viscoelastic responses that make polymers so unique. The course includes the slide deck, 3 recording modules of approximately 20 minutes followed by a knowledge check. The exam has 30 questions, requiring greater than 80% for a passing grade and 1 CORE credit.

Learning Objectives
  • Introduction to Polymers
  • Introduction to Structure & Properties
  • Mechanical Properties I - Stress & Strain
  • Mechanical Properties II - Viscoelasticity

Paul Painter, Penn State University
Paul Painter is a Professor of Polymer Science and Engineering in the Materials Science and Engineering Department at Penn State University. Dr. Painter was born in Birmingham, England where he obtained a bachelor and master’s degrees from University College, London. He came to the US and the Macromolecular Science Department at Case Western Reserve University before joining the faculty at Penn State, where he and his colleagues taught many of the polymer scientists in practice today. Paul has published more than 250 papers and was named a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1999. In collaboration with Mike Coleman, another illustrious and entertaining brit at Penn State, he has a published four textbooks and three CDs on general undergraduate polymer science, polymer spectroscopy and the phase behavior of polymer blends.
