Course Description
This course is designed to provide a review of gross knee anatomy to physical therapists so they can apply it to their clinical practice. This course will emphasize examination of dissected human cadavers and will be supplemented with class-room lectures. The focus of the review will be on musculoskeletal, articular, nervous, and vascular systems. The role of anatomical structures as they relate to injury mechanism, evaluation, and rehabilitation will be emphasized.

•Examine human cadavers and understand the normal variations and anomalies that exist between human bodies.
•Identify and locate anatomical structures in the knees of the cadavers, particularly those relating to the musculoskeletal, nervous, and vascular systems.
• Describe the functional application of anatomical structures in the knee.
• Recognize the role of anatomical structures in the knee as they relate to clinical practice of physical therapy.

Ryan McCann, PhD, ATC, CSCS
Dr. Ryan McCann is an associate professor in Old Dominion University’s School of Rehabilitation Sciences. He earned bachelor's and master’s degrees in athletic training from Northern Kentucky University and ODU, respectively. He earned a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Kentucky. Dr. McCann currently serves as the director of ODU’s Master of Science in Athletic Training program and advises students in the Kinesiology and Rehabilitation PhD program. His research focuses on risk factors, neuromuscular consequences, and interventions for ankle injuries.
