Description

During the last decade, short implants (≤6mm) have been shown to be a reliable and effective solution for patients with posterior bone atrophy. This presentation will explore in detail the scientific literature on short implants, providing evidence-based guidelines for clinicians concerning their use. Furthermore, the benefits and disadvantages of short implants in comparison to bone regenerative therapies in conjunction with standard length implant placement will be discussed.

Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to: 1) explore and analyze the current evidence supporting the validity of short implants as an alternative to bone augmentation for rehabilitation of posterior partial edentulism; 2) identify biological, mechanical and technical related factors influencing the survival and success rate of short implants; and 3) explore the validity of the crown to implant ratio (anatomical and clinical) concept and it's relationship with mechanical and biological complications of short implants.
