This course will help AMC professionals identify, explain and apply effective communication skills in a variety of context.

Learning objectives
Upon completion of the communication certificate, students will:
  • Demonstrate increased competence by identifying, explaining, and applying effective communication skills in a variety of contexts (e.g. interpersonal, group, public and professional communication, and mass media).
  • Demonstrate improved interpersonal skills by identifying and developing a repertoire of strategies for improved communication effectiveness and demonstrate the strategies in oral and written contexts.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking by identifying, analyzing, and evaluating the communication behaviors of others and themselves in a variety of contexts (e.g. interpersonal, group, public and professional communication, and mass media).
    • Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and judgment around human communication that facilitate their ability to work collaboratively with others. Such skills could include communication competencies such as managing conflict, understanding small group processes, active listening, appropriate self-disclosure, etc.
    • Students will be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
