Learning Objectives
This training course provides an understanding and operating principles of initiating devices beyond spot-type smoke and heat detection. This includes projected beam smoke detection, video image smoke/flame detection, air sampling smoke detection, high air movement areas, radiant energy sensing and carbon monoxide detection. Attendees will better understand the types of initiating device to use in different and unique applications and apply this knowledge to your project to respond quickly to the hazard without nuisance alarms.

Course Description
This course is beneficial for those with at least two years of experience in system design and installation, and covers devices beyond smoke and heat detectors. This is applicable for system designers, sales personnel, installation and service technicians, plus building and fire inspectors involved in acceptance testing and/or plans review.

Merton Bunker, Merton Bunker & Associates
Principal
Merton Bunker has 32 years of engineering experience, including seven years at the National Fire Protection Association as staff liaison to NFPA 72. He is active in codes and standards development and is the Chair of the Signaling Systems for the Protection of Life and Property Correlating Committee. Merton is a licensed professional engineer and a certified master electrical inspector.
