ACP Prosthodontic Webinar: Pterygoid Implants for Rehabilitation of the Atrophic Edentulous Maxilla

Atrophic posterior maxilla and sinus pneumatization are challenging factors in the rehabilitation of edentulous maxillae. Pterygoid implants provide a graftless approach to maximizing anteroposterior spread of implants and avoiding distal cantilevers. Successful pterygoid implant-based rehabilitation involves technique sensitive surgical protocols and requires a thorough understanding of the pterygomaxillary anatomy. This webinar will provide an overview of the advantages, anatomic challenges, and surgical and prosthetic treatment planning for placement of pterygoid implants.

At the conclusion of this session, attendees should be able to:

  • Summarize the rationale and benefits of pterygoid implants in rehabilitation of the atrophic edentulous maxilla.
  • Describe the pterygomaxillary anatomy and potential surgical complications.
  • Apply surgical and prosthetic principles of treatment planning for pterygoid implant cases.
