Thank you

This live web event has ended. Thank you for attending.

Description

The Compassionate Conversations series is aimed at highlighting effective techniques and answering questions on having sensitive conversations around difficult topics. For our sixth virtual conversation in this series, we will be focusing on patient-centered discussions regarding cytomegalovirus and how health care professionals in obstetrics and gynecology can support their patients.

Cytomegalovirus, also known as CMV, is virus that can be contracted by people of all ages potentially affecting hearing, cognition, and vision in newborns. If infected, CMV remains in a person’s body, it stays there for life and can reactivate. For most people with a CMV infection have no symptoms and is typically symptomatic in immunocompromised patients. However, CMV can also be passed from pregnant person to fetus and about 1 in 200 babies are born with congenital CMV infection. Of these congenitally infected babies, about 1 in 5 will have birth defects or other long-term health problems. In this webinar, we hope to provide obstetric and gynecologic health care professionals and their patients with the tools to be confident in discussing CMV in a sensitive and respectful manner.
