Medical Economics 101: Overview of Coding for OMT and Common Modifiers- Understanding Role of RVU, HCC and Risk Based Coding- Contract Negotiations for Employees and Employers

This presentation is comprised of a panel of three speakers, who will present the topics indicated and answer questions at the end of the session. The presentation block will explore the basics of Coding for OMT and common modifiers used in Primary Care. Also, it will explore the basics of RVUs and HCC and the impact these have on patient care, patient funding and provider revenue. It is meant to be a general overview of the topic with some practical insights based on everyday use and experience. It is not intended to be a coding course. Lastly, the presentation will provide perspectives from an attorney regarding the ins and outs of contract negotiations.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize the proper coding for Somatic Dysfunctions and OMT and when to apply the appropriate modifiers.
  • Understand Relative Value Units, their role in determining productivity, and how HCC Scoring and Risk Based Coding help determine future payment.
  • Participants will be able to explain the importance of contract negotiations from an attorney's perspective for both the physician and the employer.
