Food Allergy or Sensitivity – What’s The Difference?

This lecture is intended to provide a better understanding of the use, misuse, and interpretation of allergy tests. At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to differentiate between true allergic disease and other conditions, such as non-IgE mediated hypersensitivities and enzymatic deficiencies. Participants should also be able to assess which laboratory tests possess peer-reviewed scientific validity and which are a waste of time and healthcare resources.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop an improved understanding of how to interpret allergy tests and know what can and cannot be accomplished with such tests.
  • Become a more cost-effective healthcare provider by learning to avoid the use of unnecessary and expensive allergy tests.
  • Develop an understanding of which patient’s symptoms are consistent with true allergy and which are not.
