Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy: Diagnosis And Treatment

Review the pathophysiology of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), as well as treatment options. At the end of the lecture participants will be able to identify patients who qualify for treatment of their BPH symptoms, understand the role of prostate cancer screening with regard to BPH management and have an understanding of all procedures used for the management of BPH.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the symptom complex associated with BPH and identify patients who require treatment.
  • Understand when to initiate medical therapy and what signifies failure of medical therapy and need for further evaluation.
  • Be exposed to all procedures available to treat BPH and understand risks and side effects of each therapy.
