Social Determinants of Health and Structural Racism in Medicine

Eighty percent of health outcomes - individual and population - are determined by the Social Determinants of Health (SDH). Twenty percent are determined by biological factors. Health care providers typically focus on these biological determinants and place far less consideration on the SDH. This talk focuses on the societal and medical structures that can negatively affect health outcomes and how we can best consider them to assure health equity.

2. Describe the effects of structural racism on health outcomes through its effects on the social determinants of health.
