Todd A. Capistrant, DO

The Fascial Distortion Model, as developed by Dr. Stephan Typaldos, is an osteopathic model that can be used by family physicians when treating patients in all settings. Rapid identification of complaint etiology combined with simple treatments can provide powerful, rapid and opioid-sparing treatment of MSK pain and more. This model is becoming more widely accepted in medical schools and residencies. The practicing family physician can learn to use these techniques to help their patients even if manual treatments have been a small part of their practice in the past. These are efficient techniques that allow the busy clinician an opportunity to address the other important aspect of the family medicine appointment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the six distortions of the fascial distortion model and the manner in which a patient presents them in the clinical setting.
  2. Recognize the gestures and descriptions associated with the six distortions of the Fascial Distortion Model.
  3. Learn the four distinct functional types identified in the FDM.
  4. Recognize which treatments are uncomfortable and which should not be.
  5.  Perform the basic Triggerband Technique.
