Abstract: It is curious that while some scheduling specifications mandate the use of Oracle® Primavera P6™ scheduling software for the project, many of these same scheduling specifications do not contain guidelines for configuration of the scheduling software. Proper P6™ configuration is essential to manage the specific project requirements. The software can be configured in various ways including but not limited to activity types, resources, costs, calendars, coding and even scheduling calculations. Without the guidelines or standards, each stakeholder may get a different result when viewing the schedule in the native scheduling format especially if they are using their own database systems. This can cause confusion and review delays for the various stakeholders of the project when submitting and reviewing the various schedule submittals required by Contract. The authors will present their recommended guidelines for the configuration of Primavera P6™, to ensure consistency. They will demonstrate the benefits of an enterprise setup and the importance of establishing scheduling specifications and checklists to support that setup.
