Target Audience New graduate women’s health nurse practitioners (WHNPs), and other nurse practitioners involved in women’s and gender related healthcare.

Objectives
  1. Discuss the incidence, risk factors, assessment, differential diagnoses, and management of bleeding during pregnancy.
  2. Describe the incidence, risk factors, potential complications, assessment, and management for preterm labor and delivery, cervical insufficiency, and premature (prelabor) rupture of membranes.
  3. Describe incidence, risk factors, etiology, potential complications, assessment, diagnosis, and management for fetal growth restriction (FGR).
  4. Explore pregnancy loss and discuss the assessment and management of grief following a perinatal loss. 

Content Outline
  1. Early pregnancy bleeding: Normal Physiologic Causes (Implantation Bleeding, Postcoital Spotting), Spontaneous Abortion (SAB), Subchorionic Hemorrhage, Ectopic Pregnancy, Gestational Trophoblastic Disease, Genital Tract Pathology (Cervical Lesions/Polyps, Cervicitis, Vaginitis).
  2. Mid to late pregnancy bleeding: Placenta Placenta previa, Abruptio placenta, Placenta accreta, uterine rupture, and others (Anal causes: Hemorrhoids, Trauma (tears & lacerations). Vulvar causes: Varicose veins Trauma (tears & lacerations). Vaginal causes: Trauma (tears & lacerations). Cervical causes: Labor (term/preterm), Cervical Insufficiency, Cervicitis, Polyp, Ectropion, Friable glandular tissue, Trauma – tears & lacerations).
  3. Preterm Labor.
  4. Spontaneous rupture of membranes (SROM) .
  5. Cervical insufficiency.
  6. Intrauterine growth restriction.
  7. Pregnancy loss and coping with pregnancy loss.
