Target Audience New graduate women’s health nurse practitioners (WHNPs), and other nurse practitioners involved in women’s and gender related healthcare.

Approval CE Approval Period: April 4, 2022, through April 4, 2025
Post-tests must be completed during the approval period with a passing score of 70% or higher to earn CE. No refunds will be issued if the activity is not completed within the approval period.

Objectives
  1. Identify components of the routine postpartum visit
  2. Describe normal pregnancy, postpartum, and lactation physiology.
    Identify normal maternal anatomical, physiological, emotional, and behavioral changes in pregnancy and postpartum
  3. Discuss the management of postpartum patients and address needs related to fatigue and sleep disturbances, changes in lochia, breastfeeding/lactogenesis, contraception, nutrition, emotional changes,
  4. Describe postpartum complications; including, but not limited to, bladder distention & urinary retention, hematoma, hemorrhage, hemorrhoids, postpartum depression/psychosis, infection, thromboembolic disorders, endometritis, mastitis

Content Outline
  1. Normal postpartum care, components of the postpartum visit (physical exam, lab tests). Physiology of postpartum. Lactation. Emotional and behavioral changes postpartum. Care of perineal area, Care of breasts, Fatigue and sleep disturbances, Lochia, Breastfeeding/Lactogenesis, Contraception, Nutrition, Emotional changes.
  2. Postpartum complications, Bladder distention & urinary retention, Hematoma, Hemorrhage, Hemorrhoids, Infection, Thromboembolic disorders, Mastitis, Endometritis, Postpartum hemorrhage, Gestational diabetes postpartum follow up, Postpartum depression, Postpartum psychosis.
